I completed a two year course in 2003 at Cardonald College in Glasgow, studying Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage.
After qualifying from Cardonald College I managed to secure a placement at the Broomhill Clinic in Aberdeen to study Remedial Massage Techniques. Here I worked for two years as a massage therapist for Aberdeen’s leading Osteopath.
In 2006 I completed a Deep Tissue and Myofascial massage course. This treatment focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue known as fascia. Deep Tissue massage is more specific than a Swedish massage. Subsequently I have obtained a diploma in Sports and Remedial massage. Sports massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including, muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but anyone wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury.
I am continuing to study Advanced Remedial massage techniques and will achieve my certificate in taping later this year.
As a member of the Scottish massage therapist organisation (SMTO) am bound by a code of ethics, professional and educational standards as well as compulsory continued professional development.
